  • battens disease is always such a sad situation. i wonder if he had often seizures?

  • he did have seizures over the course of his disease but at the end of his life we did not see seizures. I have another son with Juvenile battens at home he still alot of issues with seizures. Are you a Battens parent or sibling?

  • Was there vision loss involved?

  • yes he was totally blind Mitchell loss his vision at the age of 7 thats what led us to the testing and diagnosis of juvenile battens disease.

  • Hi, my name is Desiree, Thanks for sharing this. I also lost my brother to Battens disease when he turned 21. I have since lost both my parents from other things but being alone makes u appreciate life so much more. Thanks again for sharing

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. I know a bit about this disease. My 2 brothers Donny and Donny suffered from this disease. My mother had 6 children and the pattern that we were affected was every other until, I was born. The Doctors suggested that I be aborted because their was a good chance I would be inflicted. My mother decided to being me into the world and I couldn't be more thankful! Although I do carry the gene (carrier). God Bless you and please don't lose hope for your living child.

  • I am so sorry for your loss judy. My sister in law has juvenile battens also. She will be 20 this year, and as to be expected, is not well. her decline since i met her at 14 is staggering and heartbreaking. my husband and i are in the process of genetic screening. my heart goes out to you...

  • This is truly tragic and this is why i am pro stem cell study and use, due to the ability to cure such senseless illnesses. a company called STEM is working on a cure for this
