This is an excellent video regarding the plight of the animal rights / animal welfare movement.
The plight of animal rights is a contentious one, with acts of animal cruelty and abuse stemming from and attempted to be made justifiable from four main sources.
The first being a traditional or cultural right, the second being animal exploitation and greed the third being animals used as applications and the fourth being isolated acts and undue ill-treatment of animals all around the world.
While I believe the rights of animals in the intellectual capacity are very limited, perhaps non-existent and not plausible. Their rights in the moral sense, is an ideal that cannot be argued against.
Morality, the noun of the world moral is an ideal code of conduct us human beings have set up, strive for and wish to live by. Its rules and principals we advocate for, believe in, and strive to live by, based on what we believe to be right or wrong. i.e. to be good, do good, be honest and do the right thing.
Animals form part of and are included in this philosophy, as they are part of the world we live in.
A letdown or break in the above morals, results in upsetting and distressing acts of animal cruelty and abuse, which causes and inspires people to advocate for and implement the proper and ethical treatment of them. This is collectively known as the animal rights movement.
Animals just like humans, are capable of feeling and experiencing the same emotions we do such as pain, suffering, joy, pleasure, love, loneliness and sadness; and our relationship with them should be based on a responsible and humane stewardship of nature, and are ability to live in peace and harmony with a species that does not fully share the same intellectual capacity as us, but like us, can and does feel the same emotions we do.
The way weve treated them and continue to, forms one of the darkest chapters in human history and its important we strive to live by these morals weve set up, and strive to treat animals in a manner which exercises these morals and encourages a continuation of this ethical behavior towards them.
Animals are here, they share our world, and if we want to do the right thing by ourselves and our planet earth (which our treatment of animals directly affects) we must learn to live in peace and harmony with them, respect them for what they are and what (if applicable) environmental and ecological role they play; and just how awe inspiring, necessary and what miracles of nature they are.
Theyre not here to hurt us, theyre not here for us to do whatever we wish with, and them, like humans, deserve to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect.
True compassion extends itself to every creature capable of sensation, a statement which animals are well a part of, and a statement the animal rights movement recognizes and wishes to implement.

@Duvmasta Um, no. I'm an advanced-beyond-my-years-and-my-country American. It may be trivial to you but not to the animals. Everything that happens to an animal is important to their lives because they're living it. How would you like to be a fox that's hunted down and mauled to death? How is that trivial? It's an attrocious, horrendous act that is as cruel as the KKK was to blacks when it was formed. Sadly, in my country many people don't care and feel like "Dont bother me, I'm on my IPod." ...

@vgman94 Are you some kind of super-partiotic brit?

@Duvmasta Because Bratain is far more advanced in social terms than we in the US have ever been. They're just more respectful of other species and are in my opinion, respectable for that (among other) reasons. All Hail The Queen!
