@HydroAlexis Nah, theres always been generic first person shooters, or platformers, well games in general. When you got one game that seems to be incredibly popular (lets say wolfenstein 3d, back in the early 90s) everybody in the oligopoly (so other developers) want a piece of the money thats being made. So they quickly as possible shelf out some half assed clone. This practice hasn't changed from early shooters to sidescrollers, back to the modern 3d shooter again. Sadly...
