This year, millions of children will receive a new pneumococcal vaccine that protects them against the world's biggest killer of children, pneumonia.
By supporting the vaccine's introduction to 40 countries, GAVI aims to prevent roughly 700,000 deaths by 2015 and up to seven million deaths by 2030.
The introduction of this new vaccine is a critical contribution to MDG4, a two thirds reduction between 1990 and 2015 of global child mortality.
