There is plenty of low earth orbit footage on the internet, so we will see what happens if cover the earth and only leave a small window.

Thats not how it was done. They pinned up a transparent picture. The earth is actually on the other side of the craft. You can see it as the camera pans to the windows on the opposite side.

you fool. They are not using the real earth for the fake shots. They are using a slide of the earth in plastic attached to the window, and then reflecting light to that.

Explorer III succeeded fully, and most important, it carried a tape recorder.
