U2 Gretsch guitar comparison

request to compare 3 guitars. First is a Frankentele i built with 2 TV Jones filtertron pups. (my fav guitar) second is a Chet Atkins Gent where i replaced the bridge pup with a TV Jones.(stock are high sensitive filtertrons). Last is a 87?? White Falcon stock. I used the same amp and setting for each just a switch of guitars. Honestly i think they all sound similiar with small differences. My fav is still the Tele. I like the fact of a Gretsch sound without the worry of feedback plus I find it sustains alot longer

Mick, Would you please tell us what effects and settings you used? I think you're using about 350ms Delay but I'm not sure about the rest.

@AntiRellik sure. I used one delay w mod block set to 469ms into a room reverb block on my M13 out from that to a 65 vox pacemaker. The reverb is very slight in the mix and almost sounds like a second delay. The delay is set around 80%rate and 10%depth and a high mix. I didnt touch a thing between guitars and tried to play the same way on all to give a proper comparison

To compare the guitars press 3,5 and 8 they will be almost at the same riff.

i love gretsch and not a big fan of tele but ur tele was better then the gretsch on this riff.

they all sound very similar but I like the tele. I just think it's clearer. great tone though.

Hey did TV Jones quit making Filter Trons all I see is Classic, Power, Super, & Magna trons on the web page...What would be the closest to the ones in you tele?

Beautiful playing, where can I find those beginning notes to "All I want is You"? U2's music sheet starts off with chords or is this improvised? Great work!

By the way, regardless of your pristine sound, this is great, precise playing. It serves the musical text. And the fact that that text is, on face value simple, does not, as usual with Edge guitar lines, mean it is easy to render well. How many people can deliver the arpeggios of this song ascan be heard here? Not many, I should say.

Tele sounds great for this song. But I also like sound of Chet Atkins Gent. What strings do you use for Chet Atkins Gent? Thank you very much

The telecaster is definitely the best for this song. It has the edge you need in it. Plus that extra grittiness from the gretsch pickup. Amazing. I'd really like one for Christmas. :-)
