the best swimmer in the history of swimming has been alexander popov (21.64 in 50 meters free style without a miraculous swimming trunks). today popov would swim about 20:50 with a "fast skin" miraculous swmimming trunks.

Thanks for posting this :) All these guys are great and achieved so much! They're all awesome but Popov is still my all time favorite swimmer! He just wore some speedo's and goggles and broke records! no high tech suit or cap needed, and he's super HOT! ;)

phelps would never beat popov in the 100 free style. NEVER. it is as stupid as saying popov would beat phelps in a 400 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY. with a textile suit of the 90,s phelps wouldn,t do less of 49 seconds.

I'm pretty sure you haven't either. All I'm saying though is that even though Phelps isn't the best 100 freestyler in the world today, if you compared him and Popov, Phelps would win. I'm NOT saying that Phelps is a legend in the 100 free, though. He's just faster than Popov. Just because Phelps would win doesn't make him better than Popov in the 100 free. Popov has the medals, Phelps doesn't. Would Phelps win? Yes. But Popov will be remembered more than Phelps in the 100 freestyle.

Yeah. It would be close. Phelps' personal best is 47.51. Popov's is 48.21. That's not even in the same league. And in a textile suit, Phelps' best is 48.08. So I would bet on Phelps.

Well, it depends on the distance. In the 50, Popov is better. In the 200 and above, Phelps is better. But in the 100, it would be very close.
