Is it possible the grill hadn't been used in a while and the bird had a nest of babies in there? That's the only thing I can imagine would make a bird crazy enough to divebomb a cat. And I know nests get built into unused grills sometimes; I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehab and more than once people brought us baby birds they'd found in their grills.
Nope, we used this grill all the time & it was new when this started to happened. For some reason this bird might have had it in for my cat, but I do believe there was a nest in a tree nearby. There is another video that I uploaded w/ the similar instance- only this one was in the front yard (not the back like this video). The strange thing, is that Merlin didn't seemed to bothered by this.
