When I started my balcony garden this year, I changed up how I was making the self-watering containers. Last year I used vinyl tile to separate the reservoir from the plant and soil.

This year I'm using two containers called the reservoir and planting containers.

Using the vinyl tile definitely worked, but using two containers is much more sturdy and reliable design. Do you think using two containers is better than vinyl tiles?

  • for olla irrigation with buckets look up globalbuckets on internet and look at their olla section

  • @karinitaw Thanks. Will do.

  • You might grease the two buckeets where they meet, so they don't get stuck. For some reason buckets ten to stick sometimes.

    Thanks for this idea.

check out " 3-D Vertical Barrel Gardening " on youtube for another aspect.

  • @Albone3000 I don't use the pipe anymore. Good idea on adding more wicks through the drainage holes. Could very well work, but don't want too many as want to allow the soil to be able to drain.

  • awesome vid. have you thought about adding drilled holes to the pipe for some air to the soil? Also how about adding a couple wicks through some of those drainage holes?

  • @redskinwreckin once or twice a week.

  • how often do you change the water usually???
