@ApachePiL0T when the pro hockey leagues started, they did play outside. In fact, many junior teams played outdoors until the Great Depression was over. No one played on the grand scale like today, never mind the mega scale of an outdoor game. But you're right, in modern times, Michigan brought this great idea back and into the lime light. Now, wasn't it a Michigan State game that set the bar for the NHL? I am just asking. Kudos to Michigan and thanks, as a Canadian, for the kind comments.

I was privileged to be at this game. It was the coldest day of the year in Edmonton. But we braved it and the Oilers put on a show.

I think it is accurate to say that this game "started it all." It was the firs outdoor NHL regular season game in modern times and on national TV in Canada. I didn't hear about the Michigan State game until later, and I try to keep an eye on the CCHA. Thanks to all anyway and Happy New Year!!

Haha you guys don't even know a happy guy when you see one =P Gretz is back in his old stomping grounds among friends hence he is happy.

Ahhhhh....HNIC, Ron, Don, Wayne, and the Oilers. Something so right about it. And if I had to play one game for my life, Fuhr would def be in net. Close second to Brodeur and Roy. And the real HNIC theme! Oh, and Gretz is relaxed because he's talking to two hockey guys, not idiot "sports journalists."

Is there any chance you post the whole game?

lol! Gretzky is drunk!

I notice how loose Wayne is in this interview compared to most I've seen. This had to have been a lot of fun. THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!
Dan,

The game that started it all was Michigan vs. Michigan St. in East Lansing

Ya, that was a heck of a game too. I considered adding that fact to the description, I guess I never got around to it.
