John's detailed work is created from individual pieces of soft coloured patchwork leather stitched together to form the images, additional sewing machine work is used as a thin pencil line to add detail and bring the piece to life. The thread is used to paint the fine detail.

The butterfly wings were originally cut from a single piece like black lace and laid on to different colours.There is a very strong element of stitch and sewing in the art work which is now also being developed virtually by John with 3d animation. The original textile art is used as surface maps in a CG environment.
