That's not the only way. I don't even have windows installed on mine and I can run steam and many other games/applications on my mac.

with the senser bar just ON (not connected to the PC) you can detect IR, or even cruder, use two small tealights, or IR leds on the top of your screen, and the wii will relay the IR pos/info
