this is a popular traditional Irish jig ( 6/8 time) it has 7 parts. each part is played twice.
the khaen, or sometimes spelled khene is a bamboo mouthorgan originating in Laos. each pipe has a small metal free reed inserted inside the wooded air chamber.the notes are produced by stopping small holes in the pipes. it has 16 pipes with a range of 2 octaves .

  • Wow... just wow. Makes me want to throw away my accordion.

  • This is wonderful! Thrilling to see and hear. Thanks for posting.

  • I have 5 of these Khaen for sale straight from a master Thai instrument builder in Roi Et, Thailand. I brought them back with me when I went to Thailand last year. They are the best quality you can find. Cool video!!

  • This is fantastic! Really a revelation--you've found a new instrument to play Irish music on, and it sounds great!

  • WOW! That sounds like an entire band! And really authentic playing. This is awesome. Now I have to add it to my list...

  • Great, well done - I have one of these, but can only manage a few random notes, so really appreciate the skill displayed.

  • Thanks Dan! Glad you like them, tryin ta finish up artwork for an album here. Hope to catch you soon at a session, if yer interested in popping over to Athlone for one at any stage, just drop me a mail. Take care, Bean

  • THe best bit about this that, if you don't look at the video, you can hear a whole band playing - I can definately hear a Banjo ! Super tune, Super Instrument and super playing. If you ever see a guy in a turban playing one it might be Osama Bin Ladin - he would need to play an instument where you couldn't see his face!
