  • it takes more skill to kick and stop right in someones face than it does to knock their head off, point sparring is not fighting but it teaches u speed, control, and how to read an opponent.

  • I wanted to like it really but i just hate points sparring it seems pointless to me.....

  • @tfunk20 I used to think that too, then I really tried to kick someones head off....its not easy, that is a lie

  • @wowacoun mouthguards man. Point sparring is fun, but half of fighting is learning how to get hit, and another good portion is getting in the habit of striking with force and vicious intention. I took kuk sool for 6 years and i had to unlearn some bad habits that came from point sparring. Often it can simply turn into foot tag. I still love kuk sool for its holistic approach but I can't sya i don't have some critiques. Thats just me though. :D

  • If you guys like full contact go ahead and after 3 years your gonna have 2-3 teeths :D

  • @SoiledBoxers

Yes, i have been to 1 class and never returned as i new it wasn't going to make me any more proficient at defending myself. Point sparring sucks, end of. Why can't they just wear TKD gear and go full contact?

If you aren't used to being hit and aren't used to making contact, in the real world you are going to get haymakered to death tbh

  • @djeq721 Have you been to a Kuk Sool Won class before? You are aware that your watching tournament point sparring here and NOT full contact, no rules street fighting? Two completely different ways of fighting.

  • @tfunk20 Couldn't agree more. I've done a bit of full contact before, and dont get me wrong, its great but I don't have to think as much whilst doing it. With point sparring 1 hit and that could be it. Its like a game of chess. You have to out think your opponent... and be fast as hell ha.

  • @jkdbuck76

Agree, this martial art would actually be good and not ridiculed if they just actually sparred and incorporated more low kicks and Boxing technique. Sadly it's for the faint hearted who beleive you can defend yourself with just principle, it's not until they experience real world violence that they will realise, a nice, slow, calm, and peaceful night down the dojo has probably made thing worse for them in the real world.

  • @blondeblackbelt ...answer this question in your mind: if you were going to have to fight someone who was determined to knock your head off, what would you rather train in? Point fighting? Or Muay Thai? Then when you answer this question, answer the followup question, which is "WHY?".

  • @muaythaistrong Sorry, I cannot stay silent. You'll hear "You-Won-Hwa" but nobody can seem to make it work against a fully resisting opponent. The heavy bag all too often is a dust catcher in many mcdojos...and **** sool won schools are no exception. Although I made a lot of friends in *** sool and admire SOME of the practitioners (many of who are GONE), there really isn't much good I can say about it. IMO, it is sloppy hapkido + kung fu. Srry kids, the Suh's were hapkido people!
