Python is a high level programming language initiated by Guido van Rossum as the successor of ABS Programming Language in the late 80s.

Python is gaining its popularity steadily and has become TIOBE Programming Language of the year twice in years 2007 and 2010. It is now the programming language taught to students doing IT for the GCE AL Examination in Sri Lanka. Students enrolled to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya has to undergo a Python course conducted by the Computer Engineering Department.

The latest version of Python to date (2011-10-10) is 3.2.2 and another backward compatible Python 2.7.2 version is available. This tutorial is constructed with Python 3.2.2 in mind which has different syntax relative to version 2.x s.

  • Very nice vid. I hope you make a complete Python Tutorial!!! My only complaint is the volume. I had a hard time hearing you, with the vol turned almost all the way up. . .Keep up the good work, and thank you.

  • @Colstonewall : Lassie, my dogie, ate up my headset... recording using on-board mic. Ordered one from EBay but still didn't reach my doorstep.

    I will do a full tutorial for newbies in Python, it will be different from other tutorials you find around. Waiting for the next holiday season at Uni to come, at the moment my brain is kinda fully occupied by Industrial Training and few exam studies, that holiday will take time to come!

  • Extremely helpful effort, thanks very much..I guess you needed to insert (raw_input) instead of (input) as you were dealing with strings.....
