Although blacksmithing can definitely be an art, most people can learn the basics well enough to make useful things.

  • Nice. I took a blacksmithing class not too long ago and had a blast. Once I get some other stuff squared away I hope to start buying some basic smithing gear.

  • @vtpaladin Centaur Forge is a pretty good resource for forging stuff. I've made a few purchases from them, including my anvil. The forge I use in this video belonged to my father. I guess he bought it at an auction or something like that.

  • I thought forgery was illegal? :)

never mind, forge ahead. I wonder if those air blown little gasifier stoves get hot enough for forge work as well?

  • @fastacker2 Forgery? well, that's one way to put it.

Don't know about a blown gasifier stove. If I just want to do a little bit of forging I heat the metal with an oxyacetylene torch. I've also used charcoal, but that's a lot more work than coal.

  • Great work thank you for sharing, nothing gets hotter the that Hillbilly Gold ; )

  • @duckzbuckznbigtruckz Hillbilly Gold. That's fun, and accurate!

  • @therealvirginiawind Cool, thanks for the tip.

  • @tuffnutt34 I don't have a great deal of knowledge in blacksmithing, but I did take a class in it a few years ago. Mainly, you just need to get started to learn how to do it. There are of course lots of techniques, but it's really all about getting metal hot and shaping it how you want.

  • @MarshmallowVogt I got my forge from my father who got it at an auction. I've seen them myself at auctions and also on eBay.

  • Very cool! Thank you for sharing.

  • I really want to make myself a little forge like this I would like to make some railroad spike knives where did you get yours I have seen them online but not locally
