WRCA-TV's (as New York's Channel 4 was known back then) local "CARTOON THEATER" was NOT the same program. "CBS CARTOON THEATRE" aired nationally for 13 weeks in the summer of 1956 [Wednesdays, 7:30-8pm(et)], and was never shown again.
This ending had the credits shown, while other Terrytoons TV shows like "Mighty Mouse Playhouse", "The Heckle & Jeckle Cartoon Show" and "Farmer Alfalfa and his Terrytoons Pals" does not have the closing credits at all, only just other Terrytoon characters tell us to "See you next week!". After that, that was it, no credits.
I believe Bill Gammie wrote "comedy continuity" for Dick- he was never credited on the later "VAN DYKE SHOW", but must have provided him with a few lines, here and there. Oh, by the way, if this is "Show #7", then the correct broadcast date would have been JULY 25, 1956 [since the show began on June 13th and ended on September 5th; hence, 13 filmed episodes].
Notice CBS did NOT give credit for the directors who worked on those cartoons: Connie Rasinski, Mannie Davis and Eddie Donnelly (though not in that order)...and the man who animated those titles, the late great JIM TYER!!
In answer to your questions: Michel Grilikhes later wrote the story to the 1966 movie "Duel at Diablo"; Howard Magwood had co-directed a 1953 TV series, "Johnny Jupiter"; and I read somewhere Bill Gammie once wrote for "The Dick Van Dyke Show" some years after this.

I see now that CBS 2 NYC original run was one season in 1956 , then NBC 4 took it .

I have a 1958 NYC childrens TV guide, it lists Cartoon Theater 9;00 am , channel 4 on Saturdays only. Andy's Gang was on before it.

This was not the only time that Mr.Dick Van Dyke
hosted reruns of a classic old movie. In 1961 and again in 1962..he hosted MGM's classic
musical/fantasy film version of Frank Baum's"The Wizard
Of Oz!"with his wife and kids.

I waited three months to see this segment...THAT'S RIGHT!
Every time I tried to watch this clip, the screen froze!!
Today (3 November 2006) is the first time I saw it. This
WAS WORTH THE WAIT!
