This is a side by side comparison of the world record jumps from Bob Beamon and Mike Powell. They footage is from different camera angles, but it is cool to see the difference between the two jumps. Namely, the short-long takeoff from Beamon and the long-short penultimate from Powell. Beamon's high jumpesque approach creates superior height, but a more pronounced loss of speed and may have contributed to his lack of any other 28' jumps in his life, whereas Powell's approach generates more speed at takeoff but sacrifices height. Anyway, an interesting look at the past two world records in the men's long jump that have survived a combined 42 years! The footage is completed with the final three jumps for Carl Lewis and Mike Powell at the 1991 world champs. Enjoy!
They look identical

I hate the damn camera angles they use in the jumps. If they would fucking keep the camera still and zoomed out at the end (for the entire jump part) you could really see how much distance they cover. When they follow him through the air it makes it look like they jump way less distance. With a good camera angle it would be visually stunning.

Lewis: 21 time more than 8m70. Powell 2nd best: 8m70. Beamon 2nd best: 8m33 (world record at this time 8m35). Pedroso: 8m96 (wind 1,2 m/s but a judge was in front of the anemometer..). Big respect to all these guys

@simop3 @MrCeej9999 Nothing is stupid. At the beginning it is BOB BEAMON the 1st man who showed is is possible to jump over 8m90. It was no matter of altitude. He broked the record: 8m35 to 8m90. Come on... no comparison please... i really like Powell but no comparison. It was in 1968 and a Natural Mystic was blowing in the air this day.

@jimmyred1978
Beaman set his record at altitude though, remember. Mike Powell's PB at altitude is 8:99............................It only isn't the world record, because of a very marginal 2.2 metre wind

I remember when they talked to bob beamon after mike powell broke his record. Beamon said that after he learned his record had been broken he woke up that next day feeling naked. lol! But Beamon's jump and the marjin that the broke the record by will always be the GOAT.

Brilliant! Powel was slightly faster here i believe and it shows as he landed slightly earlier. Both got amazing vertical lift.
