In February 2009 Cypress Mountain, the home of the 2010 Olympics had tons of snow!
Unfortunately, one year later, when we really needed snow for the 2010 Olympics ... the mountain was bare.
January 2010 was the warmest month on record in our history.
Vancouver is after all, in the middle of a temperate RAIN FOREST, so it was no surprise to locals, many of whom thought it was a foolish idea to host an Olympics in a city that grows full size palm trees outdoors.
VANOC, the local Olympic organizing committee responsible for putting on the Games decided to truck snow in from another mountain THREE HOURS AWAY, and them disburse the snow on the runs using helicopters.
The amount of carbon dumped into the air to achieve this gargantuan task quickly negated any environmental gold medal VANOC professed to have won.
It was an environmental disaster that unfortunately didn't seem to worry VANOC any more than the increase in homelessness the Olympics caused in Vancouver's infamous Downtown Eastside (DTES).
