"In the award-winning documentary Children Full of Life, a fourth-grade class in a primary school in Kanazawa, northwest of Tokyo, learn lessons about compassion from their homeroom teacher, Toshiro Kanamori. He instructs each to write their true inner feelings in a letter, and read it aloud in front of the class. By sharing their lives, the children begin to realize the importance of caring for their classmates."

While true, the same goes for Japanese schools. This is just a very special teacher. The difference is, our system would not allow him to teach and would likely fire him.

no empathy in modern western schools - just a hideous environment of competition and bullying.

This is so different from when I was in school. If a child dared to show emotion, god forbid cry, they would be yelled at and punished like it was no tomorrow. My father's death when I was a child was used as a weapon for the teacher to torment and harass me further.

We all cry, anyone with a good heart cries when children cry from empathy or pain.

The reason why Asians are smart is because they don't have fluoride in their toothpaste

So what happens if a kid writes something like "school is boring and uninteresting because it is unchallenging and I don't learn, and because of this my parents try to drug me"
