Super Empire Strikes Back (SNES) - Part 1/3

This is part two of the Super Star Wars trilogy on the SNES. Not much has changed - great graphics, great music, same mix of platforming and mode 7 stages. Since this game is very long, I split this playthrough in more convenient chunks of 50-60 minutes so people can watch it in segments. I guess 2.5 hours may be too long to watch at once for most people.

When I said "the sequels are even better" in my Super Star Wars playthrough, I might have been a bit nostalgic. Oh boy, this game is hard. I assume it is because of the password system so you can try as often as you like. For a single-segment run the Jedi difficulty was out of question and even on Brave it was frustrating as hell mostly because of enemy placement and should you die and lose your rapid ion or plasma rifle then good luck - it'll be a rough ride.

On the bright side, the snowspeeder stage is really cool. That is, the mode 7 stage. The side scrolling one is atrociously difficult. As you will see, I often survive with just a few pixels of health left. Super Star Wars also feels more like one game while Super Empire Strikes Back is split in various plot lines alternating between Luke, Han and Chewie. Of course that is dictated by the movie, I know.

I have a hard time to pick a winner if I had to choose between the two games I played through so far. Super Empire Strikes Back offers more gameplay value - it's huge - and does almost everything better. It even made the lightsaber useful. So, I'd pick the sequel, but if you actually want to enjoy the game, play on easy. If you like a challenge, you will find one on jedi difficulty. Either way, it's a great game!

This Game is Bad ass, If my kids wanted a Video game console I would get them the SNES with star wars, No xbox or playstation just the good ol classics.... and its cheap lol

I love this game. It gives you nothing for free. You have to earn your way through this game. You have to study a boss like megaman but harder. If you want a walkthrough the movies play lego star wars. If you want a game that requires the force SNES EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
