@drewnickel omg man, its not steel core it TUNGSTEN CORE, or DEPLETED URANIUM DARTS, wiht penetrate like crazy, common man get your facts right, they dont use steel, DEPLETED uranium and TUNgsten is more dense and harder then steel, please research, this is basic knolege nothing special, how old are u, u seem to lack basic knowledge about weapons and amunitions

tungstencarbide is, basically- a carbide!
that means it isnt formed by "allyoing" tungsten with steel, but by merging tungsten with carbon which makes it a ceramic, not a metal, thoug its called "hardmetal".

the slower the bullet, the deeper it penetrates water, it was something like that.
might have been the cause.
but i dont remember any sources so you might google yerself.....
but for the record, the round was most propably a 8 x57IS, which is nowhere near to the 50cal.
after all id go with a 20mm.

Water penetration depends on bullet design--some bullets are designed to cavitate and gan retain lethal power for 30+ feet.
