no he was much weaker when he was evil. The heroes just started out weak as shit. I mean they barely beat a footsoldier just before this. They gradually get stronger and leave their evil counterparts in the dust but then Anubis becomes a bad ass good guy.

I'd have to go back and look it up, but I believe this is clip is after Talpa infused a huge amount of dark power in him. In an attempt to keep him from turning against him. Which was slowly happening once he started talking to the Ancient. And after he switched sides, he only wanted to help the Warlords as the Ancient helped him, he didn't want to hurt them, only show them that they were being used.
