Rare US video for Asleep. I decided to edit the summary as many people question the validity of this video. I did not make it. I took it, like many other rarish clips posted from a Smiths video compilation, which was one of a series which were bought in the late 80s and early 90s. I still have the videos now and transferred some material from video to dvd and youtube. The original clips were all on vhs. All these, about 25 in all featuring Morrissey or Smiths came from a very reliable source at that time and usually featured a live performance bootleg video and several tv clips eg cleavage sisters clip. In those days, taping and videoing was pretty hard work and a lot of effort went into them. All I can tell you is that this video is on one of the Smiths VHS tapes and is listed as "Rare US video - Asleep". If anyone could provide more info on it I'd be happy to hear it. There are two other videos on one of the VHS cassettes for Shoplifters and something else that appear to be created for a US TV programme as there are credits at the end. I've not posted them as the quality is very poor. I just thought I'd share this with folk so don't shoot the messenger... I think its pretty good btw....you folk in the digital age dont know how good you got it!

  • i don't understand why everyone is freaking out. i mean, hell, i liked the smiths before i'd read 'the perks of being a wallflower,' but i never knew this song in particular, or really cared. it doesn't matter if the book was 'well written' or whatever bullshit because it's supposed to sound like it's a teenage boy! the book was good for what it was, and so is this song - just on different levels. leave it at that, muthafuckas. <3

  • I know people are angry that some people found this song from Charlie but I'm so proud! Finding an amazing song from an amazing book, being able to connect the two and make each more powerful is a great thing.

  • FYI everyone, I created this video myself back in 1988. I'm not hoaxing you. If you wanna know more about it send me a message.

  • хроши....... шут не расплакайся

  • @SellTheBenefits Because that's not degrading at all right?

  • @samhathaway92 Quiet down now cunt

  • @SellTheBenefits The Smiths wrote songs that had emotion, powerful ones, at that, but "emo" in the modern sense is no way to describe them. This song is about death, in part, but that doesn't make it an emo song. They were one of the best bands of the twentieth century, and it is degrading to their legacy to write them off as simply "emo". Also, just to clear that up, nobody should be cutting themselves to any music, sad or not.

  • @SellTheBenefits i think your pretty retarded and have no sense of other people and their emotions. this is a beautiful song, emo is such a stupid fucking word

  • This song proves that not all musical geniuses have to be suicidal..

  • @Liiinnea I can understand that. The same happens to me whenever I hear people tell me they prefer Peter Gabriel's cover of The Magnetic Field's Book Of Love to the original. It's more that they just don't give proper credit to the original I find. Just find it disrespectful to the original artist.
