@NTNGUYEN Basically if you wanna learn how to fight take MMA, karate, or wing chun. But if you want to have a clear sense of self-defense in its most pure form: to avoid confrontation, as well as to improve your own personal character... Take Aikido or Tai Chi...
@darkreaper91 That is right, Aikido is a martial art designed NOT to fight. When you say you want to learn to fight, it is the same thing as saying "I have an ego, and I want to win, I want to pulverize my enemies." However, Aikido's techniques are designed to STOP a fight, STOP the aggression... that is why Tohei's Sensei Ki Aikido has no strikes: only locks, throws, and pins. Hurting someone and beating them up is EASY; however, controlling them and the situation takes A LOT of skill.
@darkreaper91 An aikido-man is NOT a fighter! Fighting is not the objective for aikido. Therefore, you are right, a street fighter might not do that, but an Aikido-man will, because he's NOT a fighter. hahaha
gosh it s time for many to know who is Tohei Sensei. This is video sharing site, sky is the limit. The man is genius and it s pity to confined his knowledge of ki and aikido to some petty rules.
@NTNGUYEN I 100% agree with you ,i study aikido over 3 years ,and i suprise many times my atacker on the street (i win ) sorry for my english :)

@NTNGUYEN fair enough I guess I am pretty naive to the style of Aikido, but what I'm gathering from you is that Aikido isn't suitable for fighting?

@taiji218 they mentioned the artistic art, related to painting, dance or poetry, not carpentry and head bashing.

Umm, he's putting his arm out there like that because it's an *exercise,* meant for training. It's not meant to resemble a street fight.
