This is the original demo version of Wheel In The Sky from 1977. Before Journey went with Steve Perry, they had a man named Robert Fleischman. Fleischman had a very short stint with the band, but ended up writing some songs that were used on the Infinity album (including Wheel in the Sky). This is Journey's demo of Wheel in the Sky with Fleischman on lead vocals.

  • Powerful vocals and a range that equals Steve Perry's. Schon's guitar soloing is much freer and prominent throughout; Not overproduced like the final version. Ironically, I do think Perry's voice is more suitable for the song and I hope Fleiscman is receiving plenty of royalties for the song and the album it's on. I have to check out his V work with Vinnie Vincent. Excellent find. Did you get this on a boot? Thanks for sharing.

I found it on a website when I got a live concert of Journey with Robert Fleischman. I heard that he did other demos for the Infinity album, but I haven't been able to find them. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

  • WOW--what a find! Thanks for sharing! :)

  • He doesn't sing with as much emotion as Steve Perry IMO.

  • He really does have quite a powerful voice, but I have to agree with, theelevan1. Perry's vocals just fit with it more.

  • It doesn't take a primary writer of one song to make a band it takes The Voice Steve Perry too, plus Journey has many more hits that can out way one song RF wrote! So ya it was all SP. End of Story.

  • Thank Goodness Journey got Steve Perry who else there probably wouldn't of ever been a Journey, and Robert F. Tries to make it seem like he made Journey, he co wrote one song and SP perfected it, so ya

  • @wheelinthesky300.. Robert F. is the main writer of this song. I know it for a fact because he was my neighboor for many years. He was known in writer circles as the main writer AND I saw royalty checks in his name for that song amongst others. He is a nice guy.

  • I Love the Robert Fleischman days. Journey is & was a great band !

  • Actually his voals are quite impressive. Top notch rock style, power and range. Love Steve as Journey's best vocalist and one of best all time rock vocalists but Robert is quite amazing.

  • Bad fit - simple as that.

The whole's gotta be greater than the sum of the parts - or why bother?

  • He almost sounds like a girl at times.........

  • pathetic

  • Good but not Steve Perry

  • Hey, thanks for posting this. I was doing some Journey research and heard this guy's name and thought I'd research him.....I sort of feel bad for the guy, but I'm sure he got paid for all of the success this song got......
