Thats mainly due to the fact that Acelas have to share the lines with other trains. When it is able to go at Maximum speed, Its able to go as fast as the TGV.
@leylandcarsloverslea The average speed of the Acela is ~87MPH and the TGV runs on average at about ~173MPH. Even the oldest and slowest Shinkansen runs faster than the Acela.
It seriously is a "bullet-train," but it doesn't seem to attract attention like the Japanese shinkansen or the TGV in France... Don't know why that is...
@Theguy493 Not quite. Acela tops out at 165 mph, while the TGV can reach 190 to 200 mph.
