Was under the impression suffered from heart attack dude, is that what happens.

When I saw him inking a cover to Savage Dragon at Wondercon last year, I was blown away by how he held his pen. Looks like it would hurt, but then again he IS a master.
-
This guy Rocks ! Your comic books are cool ! (And I don't know if I wrote wrong !)
-
@KnightCrawler2 he holds it that way so he doesnt have any blocks of view and not to get any ink smears from his hand thats why I draw in that same fashion.
-
Doesn't matter how he holds his pen. What matters is the results. Erik Larsen creates one of the coolest character: Savage Dragon. And this is great.

alot of illustrators do, its not like still life drawing or painting from a standing model, they have to visualize and put the shit on paper from thought without fucking it up 100 times. I can half ass draw but to make it look half worth a shit I have to hold the pen.... in a odd way.
-
Yeah David Finch! I saw his Gnomon DVD Workshop... I know to what you refer!
Peace!

Well, yeah, everyone has their own method to hold the pencil. There is the writing method, which I use to draw, or there is the butter knife method, where one holds the pencil like a butterknife buttering bread.
Erik's is more onto this method.
I know David Finch, who is not a patch on Erik in art terms, holds the lead holder in a truly weird way, and has made a ball of masking tape around the holder so as to prevent his thumb getting calloused, which was happening often.

Oh so he also admits... well until he feels comfortable. Everyone has his own way and approach.
Peace!
Erik Larsen is badass! Does he always draw like that? He holds his pen in a weird way....

Always draws like that. See "Understanding Erik Larsen" in Savage Dragon #100 or in Super Patriot:America's Fighting Force #4 by Chris Eliopoulos.
