I think you did a great job with the vehicle. I am doing a conversion of the same model, and would appreciate some help. We cant seem to figure out the RPMs, because the manufacturer (D&D) has a runs from 2000-6000 rpms, but that is too high for this sort of application. How do you deal with the high rpms? How is the motor connected to the transmission. Any info will help, thanks

good thing to save the planet and a geo metro is a small car to nip across town and converting it to a electric car is even better

You know what could have come in really handy for you with the generator trailer... My dad used to get military surplus generators with flat-4 engines, producing 3600W at 24V (they were originally used to power remote helicopter landing zone lights). He'd convert them AC 60Hz and sell them, but I bet the 24VDC would've been better for this.
You know you really have a good idea happening there with that extended ranger trailer. Some folks may even opt for a generator on a receiver mount.

u sound very smart, nice job

Although the alternator is unregulated. You may want to get a charge controller to place inline between the alternator and the batteries. As an added safety feature. Just some friendly advice from sunny FL

an alternator can usually only put out 1500- 2000 watts of power, it will NOT charge 100+ volts at 60 amps or 6000 watts also unless you modded the alternator the output voltage will drop to about 20-25 volts at high amp loads
Jeclone;
Untrue, first of all the alternator I am using only has to put out 90 volts.
It will well exceed that into a dummy load and Maintain it!!!. This isn't my first experience with alternators, regulators and rectifier circuits. Look up secrets of the alternator by putting in that phrase on Google search. Testing has shown me that this alternator will exceed 140 volts and produce 90 amps but that causes it to run too hot.Dr. Larry

not according to bench tests. You didn't think I would go to the expense without fist testing the outcome did you?
Thanks for your comment

Hey Dr Larry, Gav from New Zealand here.
Good video; I finally got to see the brains behind the famous conversion! That trailer looks fascinating too, best of luck with it.

The two batteries under the hood are the only two that are connected with bars. All the rest are connected by cables. Thanks Dr. Larry
