I've seen this guy work with bees several times under different situations. He definitely has a gift for bee keeping. I think his approach does make for gentler bee. Not to sound like a Hippy or anything like that. The CO2 thing? Well, whatever he's doing, it works. I've never seen him use smoke and I've never gotten stung while being in his presence during a demonstration. I personally find the top bar hive to be easier, more interesting and fun to deal with.

Great video! I've been working with the golden mean and backyard top bar hives for over 5 years and it never ceases to amaze me how attune the bees are with us while working the hive. It's so refreshing to see people like backyard hive who are so attune with the bees they work with that they are able to work peacefully with bees without using protective gear. Really inspiring! This is definitely the future of working with honeybees!!

I found their full length video on their website backyardhive, it's really beautiful, well filmed and I learned a ton, even though I have been working with top bar hives for a few years . I built 3 hives from their plans and the bees are doing good so far! It's really helpful to see someone work a hive
