Bill, I spoke to a service worker and he told me the air compressor is for the Lufkin brand air balance pump jack where a large piston is used instead of a counter weight.

@pvcarmon1 it might be a vacuum pump

Question, I work near numerous "pump jack" installations in the Wilmington CA area. I noticed most of them natural well gas powered and electric motor driven often times equipped with an independant tankless compressor pump and motor that often times appears to be from 3-5 horse power in size. These compressors pumps have an outside air filter attached and do not appear to be intended for compressing well gas. What are they for and that is there purpose on the installation. Thanks

Is that turbocharged?
Is Central Diesel an american company or importer from China. That engine looks like a Detroit Diesel model 2/71 Duce.......

@pvcarmon1 . Central Diesel is an Australian company, these wells are in Australia, the engines are German made Deutz, the little two cylinder was a Spanish Deutz. They use American TwinDisk clutch for the output.

Most pumpjacks around here (the Sinclair oilfield), run on propane motors before electrical service is supplied. It's clean, however it costs about 10x as much to run a propane powered jack than an electric jack.

Yeah there is a fair cost running these units on crude even though the fuel if free, the fuel needs to be trucked, the engines need servicing etc, there are fields that are electrified and the pumps need less maintanence, the crude ones are used becouse they are so far away from anything and some times there is only one or two pumps every 10-20km, a truck even has to collect the oil the pumps brings up as runnning a flow line would cost too much. There is only two gas units here I know of.

ive never seen anything like this out in west texas!! and we have probably a million wells out here! haha

Yeah you guys would have a lot of wells out there. We do have a number of Cat engines running on the crude here as well, but most of the pump jacks have air cooled Duetz's on them now, years ago they had air cooled Dorman's and Lister's. They are experimenting with 3 cyl air cooled Duetz's that have bieng converted to gas in the US as engines to use here because of the emission laws that are coming in.
