P.S. I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Herb and Lani play at Blues Alley in Georgetown Washington DC 12 May 2008. The show was absolutely spectacular. After all these years, they both still have it: the skills and the love. Truly a remarkable show. Herb and Lani, thanks to all of the wonderful years of warming our hearts with your great art work. You both are truly blessed as well as I was at your show.

Will we ever see another brass band like Herb Alpert & The TJB again? I miss 1960-1985. Great music was made.

I bet most you didn't know that Herb Albert was the "A" in A & M Records. He is rich beyond compare and really didn't need to perform then or now. But his love for the trumpet still keeps him going. HIs is very smooth. Too bad they didn't have real Mexicans in the group. Made up mostly of Italians

Herb heard a fantastic ear, and could brilliantly arrange standards, Latin tunes and novelty songs like no one else. He really built his own sound. His take on certain songs is so distinct, and really different than anyone else recording.

The TJB did several TV specials in the 1960s and I remember watching every one of them. They were great. I would love to see them again.

If you put 3 trumpet players in 3 different booths and had them play three notes I could tell you which one was Herb Alpert. His sound is so unique. Only he can make the sound that he does. Everyone else is...well, BLAH!!!

@willardlockejr Hmmm, I didn't know the name of the "Whipped Cream" cover girl. And you're right: shaving cream was used because real whipped cream would melt away too fast under the hot lights while shooting the picture. The only real whipped cream on that cover is on Dolores's right index finger. That's also why they use glue instead of real milk when cereal commercials are filmed.

I can clearly remember the night that I sat with my family and watched the original braodcast of this show. while living in Michigan in '67. It was fantastic then and is still great today. Memories of a by gone era....compared to the garbage that passes for music today. Herb, you gave us GREAT memories of how music can be palyed and we love you for it....!!!!
