Recently, the University of Houston has been in the news: striving for Tier One status; a triumphant football season; Pulitzer Prize winning faculty but what about its place in our community? Did you know that the university has awarded nearly a quarter million college degrees, with 75% of these graduates remaining in the Houston area? UH students contribute more than a million hours a year in volunteer services and internships in and around Harris County. And, the UH system generates more than 3 billion dollars a year in total economic benefits to our region. But with the difficult economy, the University is also feeling the pinch, and questions have been raised about tuition hikes and the university's future. This week on Houston 8, a look inside the University of Houston with Dr. Renu Khator.; taping date February 11, 2010.
