This is one of the most commented videos I've ever had. Mostly because nobody knows where this song is from. So here's all the info.

This Def Jux underground vet Aesop Rock performing "The One That Got Away" off of a limited edition 45 put out by Upper Playground called "The Next Best Thing." This is the B-side to the record. This was a collaboration with Jeremy Fish, an artist who works with Upper Playground. Jeremy contributed a book to accompany the 45. THIS IS NOT "The Harbor Is Yours." If you think it is, you obviously don't actually listen to lyrics. This song is the reason "The Harbor Tales" begins with yelling "remix".

The event was a meet and greet in the summer of 2006 at the Portland Oregon Upper Playground store (located at 23 NW 5th Ave in PDX). Both Jeremy & Aesop were there, and even though he just landed in town, he volunteered to rock the two tracks from the 45. Ace was using a small PA unit in a clothing store so if the crowd looks a little confused, let it slide.

Oh yeah, shout out to Stephen who is working the stereo and manages UP PDX.

Enjoy,
Verbz

  • @FeelOfFriction THIS SONG IS NOT CALLED THE HARBOR IS YOURS. Good lord, everyone says this. Does anyone listen to lyrics anymore? The songs are completely different but similar in theme & style. You could say "The Harbor is Yours," is a follow up to this song. Read the info for the story.

  • @FeelOfFriction What's funny is you are partially correct, this song isn't called "Fish Tales," the real title is "The One That Got Away." LIKE I WROTE IN THE INFO - the song was only released on a very limited edition book/45 for Upper Playground. This is probably one of the only times the song has been performed because this was a release for the 45. Now. I've got the right title. I checked the 45 in my crate. Thank you. No more.

  • When we saw Aesop a little over a year ago in Boulder he did an even different version of this. Musically it was a little closer to "Harbor" on None Shall Pass but totally different lyrics than both tracks. Any ideas out there?
