Many music historians, lecturers etc believe that Chopin was not part of the "Romantic period" of Music (in order (ignoring music made before that, excuse me) was "Medieval Music, then some interest in Gregorian stuff for quite a while but in around 1600's came alone "Baroque", then "Classical", however around 1800's a new genre became popular: "Romantic era". A lot will argue with me about this but I strongly believe Chopin was separated from this period, regardless of the time he wrote.
