Caelum Moor Stones Dedicated as Regional Cultural Amenity

Hundreds of people from all over the Metroplex arrived Thursday evening to attend the Caelum Moor dedication in the Richard Greene Linear Park between the Cowboys Stadium and Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Sculptor and creator, Norm Hines, traveled from Fiji, some 6,738 miles away, to attend the special celebration.

"To me, what it means to have Caelum Moor re-established in this spot is that the City is committed to more than athletics, Hines said. They are committed to the cultural advancement of the city."

The event celebrated the addition of the granite sculptures as a new cultural amenity in Arlingtons Entertainment District. Special speakers included Mayor Robert Cluck, former mayor Richard Greene, District 2 City Council Member Sheri Capehart, Caelum Moor Sculptor Norm Hines, Parks Board Chair Lynn Healy, North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee CEO Bill Lively and Andrew Kelton, the son of Jane Mathes Kelton who commissioned Caelum Moor in 1984.

Even though its fall, your city is blooming, said Bill Lively. What you have here is culturally significant. This remarkable sculpture compliments the region.

The sculpture, Lively said, makes us unique and distinctive and will be a signature place where people will congregate to celebrate culture in a unique way.

Former Mayor Richard Greene thanked Mayor Cluck and the city council for keeping the faith in re-establishing the stones

Thank you for finding a way, Greene said. The community will forever be grateful.

Caelum Moor was originally dedicated in 1986 in south Arlington where they stood for thirteen years before being removed to make way for new commercial development. Over a decade later, they have been resurrected between two other monolithic icons in the city.

Im so proud of whats happening here Mayor Robert Cluck said. I feel like the luckiest person alive. This beautiful park is now a reality and will forever be a showplace in Arlington.
