Iranian protesters Storm British Embassy

Iranian protesters stormed the British Embassy in Tehran today, tossing firebombs and burning documents, but an Iranian news agency has withdrawn a report that six staff members had been taken hostage. The Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed "regret for certain unacceptable behavior by a small number of protesters in spite of efforts by the police," the BBC reports. "The relevant authorities have been asked to take the necessary measures and look into this issue immediately," the ministry said. The U.N. Security Council condemned the attack "In the strongest terms." Reuters quotes the Iranian semi-official FARS news agency as say that police had secured the release of six British Embassy staff who were taken hostage. There were no details. Earlier, the Iranian semi-official Mehr news agency had reported the apparent hostage-taking, but withdrew the report later from its website without explanation. The semi-official FARS news agency reports that thousands of protesters who have gathered in front of the British Embassy are demanding that the British ambassador be expelled and the embassy shut down. Britain cut all financial ties with Iran last week over concerns about Iran's nuclear program, the first time it has cut an entire country's banking sector off from British finance, the British Treasury announced.Last week, all British credit and financial institutions were ordered to end their business relationships and transactions with all Iranian banks, their branches and subsidiaries by Monday. The move came after an International Atomic Energy Agency report highlighted new concerns about "the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program," the Treasury statement said Monday. It is an outrage what the Iranians have done, but entirely predictable. They are not really a civilised nation but a gang of savages. If they have taken any Brits hostage and try to do a re-run of what they did at the US embassy back in 1979/80 then the British government should team up with Israel and go to war against those jihadi creeps. And if the only way to stop Iran getting nukes is to use nukes against Iran...then so be it.
