'Palmed Off' is a 20 minute film. It is based on community testimonies and covers the impacts of oil palm plantations on Indigenous peoples in Indonesia. Palmed Off comes as 6 chapters: Introduction, Local economics, Water, Culture, Land and Conflict and finally Moving Forward.

3 NGO's - Friends of the Earth, Sawit Watch and LifeMosaic have been working together on palm oil campaigns since 2006.

  • Palm Oil primarily provides extended shelf life to junk food for developed nations. Many of the packaged "diet" products - including companies whose entrees don't need refrigeration- have palm oil.

  • There are often products of similar types without palm oil. People can check labels and buy brands without it. I've seen the devastation first hand and didn't go there to research the destruction. The top soil is actually very thin in these Indonesian rain forests, so once the natural vegetation is gone, the monsoons quickly wash the soil away, leaving blinding hot desert of sand fields and cement pits.
