I'm 25, a lesbian, and about to marry the love of my life. You know when our relationship started to really work? When we started praying together. We are both Christians. When I was a college kid, coming to terms with my identity, I realized two things. I was unable to stop being gay, and I knew Jesus was king. If both were true, and assuming God is love, I realized, He made me as I am. And I am so blessed by His love, and the love of my soon to be wife. Don't preach hate.

My mother and I have been having this same argument for years. She believes that gays are vile and evil and until we perform obeisance to the gold calf of Christian power and hegemony, we are going to Hell. When I was a teen, my parents committed me to an extreme fundamentalist Christian ex-gay facility. I was tortured for three months, strapped to a gurney, electroshocked and force-fed caustic chemicals It does not get better--just bitter. Beware! I hope things turn out better for you.
