I wonder if this is the version as it actually was broadcast by PBS because there was a VHS version sold as a "movie" (which it wasn't) and they mangled the editing in that version, which made it awful. Wonder where they found this ? Taped it off one of the broadcasts, no doubt. Must be a way to get one of them fanboys to part with a clearer copy for an a little while...anybody ? This is a great piece. Made John's career.

jkdealio: Later on in play, one of my fave scenes. They argue about the 2 cowboys chasing each other thru the panhandle. "Hey, there are no fuckin' mountains in the panhandle" and Malk's rant starting w/ the crrickets driving him nuts...
-
jkdealio: Yes, we are in lofty class. Sam Shepard brilliant playwright & Malkovich/Sinese outrageous chemistry.
"You got coffee"?
"Yeah",
"Real coffee - from the bean"?

I saw this on TV years ago but I didn't know what it was. For some reason I remembered it today, all I could think to search on Google was "play where a guy gets strangled with a phone cord". Lol...

Gary Sinise And John Malkovich make the perfect team!

Brilliant play and brilliant acting. Read this in college & happened to see on PBS @ a month later. Malkovich is stunningly realistic and Senise compliments him beautifully. Hank Williams', "Ramblin' Man" perfect song for this production. My brother & I quote lines from this a lot, especially when we're high, druk, etc!!! "Those are the most monotonous fuckin' crickets I've ever heard"!

Thank you so much amazing play and playwright. Do you have any more or know where I can see more stage productions online? I really want Tooth of the crime. Thanks again

@ciaranroberts100 Stage productions are really difficult to get, principally because they typically aren't filmed. Even 'Grapes of Wrath' with Gary Sinise which *was* filmed by PBS for television, was never produced or released on video.
As for 'The Tooth of Crime' specifically by Shepard, I only know of the soundtrack that you can get. The one of his I sooooo want is 'Buried Child' done by Steppenwolf, but of course, *that* is an impossibility.... :(
