@jamesflames75 After reading the banter between you two I have to agree with james on this one. Rugby is about sustained power. These exercises neither promote or sustain power, they promote stability. This may be what a 55 year old club rugby player needs to continue on but a young up and comer requires olympic lifting, interval sprints and functional dynamics. The impact of which would probably be detrimental to a 55 year old.

@biggernsurlier - BTW I,m 56 and played 80 minutes of 9 and 50 minutes at 6 two weeks ago - I was never an elite player - never fast - but I'm still not slow and I'm stronger than ever - that's smart variety and a lot of sports specific work, I don't train more than 40 minutes EVER, ususally less , three times a week max, besides practice, but I'm religious about variety. The detrimental impacts I take are on the field but I do lots of plyo as you'll see in the GAMMA sessions video

@biggernsurlier - fitness has many dimensions and needs change with age - I'm also training professional MMA fighters and ballet dancers with this equipment - why because we can work VERY sports specic movements- of course this isn't everything- it is however useful functional variety. This video was done in very early days look at some of the more recent stuff and you'll see some state of the art ideas, I worked a lot of rugby specific stuff into the GAMMA sessions- check it out

Rugby isn't only about sustained power and power can only be sustained for a small period of time rugby requires all the different energy systems endurance power strength agility and they vary depending on which position you play. That workout seems to be a good basic all over workout it does contain some varying degree of Plyometrics which in itself promotes the use of power although the only problem I can see is the ability to increase the amount of resistance

Bit gay exercises

@jamesflames75 - I measure my strength on the field, where am I in practice, in games, am I making tackles ?winning rucks, contributing ? I still play 15s and 7s, and play every where from hooker to wing. Now I'm always slowly improving my fitness, I,ll be stronger next year than last, we'll see how long I can keep this up, I'm already told I'm the oldest fulltime competitor in Canada lol
The only way I can see of doing that is to increase the repetitions which would increase the endurance energy system but inevitably leads to a plateau affect in the other energy systems that a prevalent Power Strength etc

@trainakiwi - working to time is, to a degree, about increasing reps, a useful way to create more work - work drives adaptation, NOT weight nor reps - the other way to create more work is increasing resitance, this is done with bands by moving away from the anchor point - the bands I use can be used for one rep max work if you want - the idea behind adpatation is variety with variety there is no plateau becasue adaptation demands are constant - variety means use everything well, including bands
