NewsTribune photographers Amanda Whitlock and Anthony Souffle spent the early morning of Jan. 1, 2012 capturing photographs of local firefighters battling the blaze at the historic Westclox factory complex in Peru, Ill.
I live near this building. I use to go to the Curves located within it. Everyday it seems more and more depressing and shocking. Where they high or drunk or just plain stupid?
At 7pm tonight, the fire departments were still there & smoke was still pouring from the back. I had to drive by it when I was picking my son up from karate.
here is a video shot from the south side of the building where the fire was..its a sad day for all of us..and i hope the fire fighter that was hurt has a speedy recovery
Excellent photos and a very well-done slideshow. This is a very tragic event. Even though I'm far away, I feel the pain of the loss of that historic building that played a role in so many of our families' lives.
My dads firedepartment was calld out but once he got to the station they sent him back homebc the only needed a couple guys going. Im glad he didnt go bc i dont wamt him getting hert!!! I am very thankfull of all the firemen who risk their lives saving ours!!<3
yeah a fire fighter was injured and had to undergo surgery, hes expected to recover in 8-10 weeks according to the paper.....pretty sad situation....im sure not only will the 17 year old be tried as an adult but if they can do it to the juvenile im sure they will try him as an adult too for aggravated arson. then after that im sure there would be grounds if buisnesses were damaged (which you know they were because of smoke and water damage) im sure there will be lawsuits agains them kids!
i really hope those kids understand what kind of trouble they are in. Millions of dollars worth of damage and i also believe a fireman was injured as well on the fire. Parents are going to have some hefty restitution to pay.
And to think my old neighbor/friend had part in this....
