Very true. I for one shan't be taking such high risks with my wizards in battle. It's just a waste, though at least now, any level wizard may use up to 6 power dice to cast a spell adding his level to the totals score.
-
One thing to note is that you can only add a wizard's level to one dispel roll per phase.
-
@Sotharhon Even if they all can know it the random power dice and the rule that if you roll less than a three the caster's magic is done for the phase will decrees the times it is used. You won't be seeing a player roll 1 dice spells cause that's a 1/3 chance that wizard fails and stops casting.
-
@Sotharhon Even if they all still can have raise dead you aren't going to see it cast as many times. Since power dice are random they may not have enough to continually cast. Also since a roll of less than three is auto fail and the wizard stops its magic casting for the phase you aren't going to see the one dice a spell spam either.

Perhaps you are right, it matters little for my play style, i do not use the vampire Counts hehehe. Though, i do truly like the sound of the new magic system, there's now more balance on the battlefield, between a army which would normally have an almost limitless supply of casting dice and one with very little. I also saw, that the Lore's of Magic, in the 8th Edition rule book, have special attributes attached to each one, which, if taken, your wizard gets. That's unique.
Vampire Counts -
necromancers can each have the same spell that another wizard in the army has.
vampires all have invocation of nehek and can default to raise dead - all of them, if they use Lore of Vampires.
So yes, RAISE DEAD RAISE DEAD RAISE DEAD
INVO SPAM INVO SPAM etc
still works fine.

I didn't say spam was dead. Vamps magic phase is just not as good as it was.
Vamp spamming on one dice will be cut down. First time the vamp fails to get off a spell that caster is done. Also, vamps will not have the same number of casting dice each turn as on average they will have 7 base.. This makes them less effective as most vamps use to have 10 or more dice.
Vamps still good just not as good as they were in 7th.

I have seen a lot of people saying that the Vampire Counts will be nerfed, because of the new rule saying that each wizard may not have the same spells as another wizard in the army. However, the Vampire's must take the Invocation spell, it's just a passive spell, that the player cannot choose and must always take for all Vampire's, Necromancer's are different. So the Vampire Count's can still raise dead a lot, unless they fail to cast it, in which case that wizard can't cast till his next turn.

@Sotharhon
That may or may not be true. The pdf should spell that out. If the invocation stays a zero spell then yes.
In the new edition, the vampire magic phase is nothing like it was in 7th. They are not that scary (pun intended) :)

Corpse Carts + Baelfire = Cheap anti magic spam. Bringing like 6.

@Rincewindlolzor
It will be successful but not quiet as good as you think. I have noticed people rolling 6 dice on a lot of spells. The corpse carts will not stop an irresistible force.
Another thing that is 600 point to stop magic. I personally think it is to much. There is several more units.
Good luck with your strategy.
