  • @TheBruiser012 Technically he was born in Russia, as Poland didn't exist back then. But yes, he was Polish, although German was certainly a language he grew up with.

  • @TheBruiser012

His native language WAS German, you fucking moron.

  • No I don't agree with you on Michel Thomas.

You basically think exposure to sources is the most important. Yes I agree once you have kind of framework. Otherwise it;s meaningless babble. You think vocabulary is the most important, that's wrong.

Michel Thomas gives you the framework. He doesn't claim or necessarily want to give you vocabulary. For example he never gives days of the week or numbers.

Michel Thomas at the end of his course encourages you to read contrary to what you say.

  • About Michel Thomas, he did not give out his method in the lower priced mass production that is given out. Why would you sell a Ferrari at a Ford's price? Those of you who think his method is what is inbookstores are wrong. You might actually like to go to ALG methods, TPR and TPR-S. Pimsleur, he died before he saw his method in large classroom method.

  • Rapid language acquisition is an oxy-moron. Strive for completeness rather than how fast you can learn the language.

  • Michelle Thomas sounds popular because his method sounds "easy." So people are more likely to give it a chance. It's less work than having to read things and do lots of studying on your own.

It's like people looking for exercise trainers. Trainers lie to people and give them easy exercises that are not so effective. A trainer that actually pushes someone and has them doing free weights instead of machines etc. isn't going to be very popular.

  • What are some of the better ways in your opinion to learn words?

  • Practice every day. Practice your ass off. Haha. As for time efficient methods... I don't know. I would say it is more important to practice anything than it is to worry about what you should be practicing. You can always fix any bad habits later. Any practice will help in the long run. Make some easy goals and reach them I guess. Have fun with it.

  • As natural as possible.

Beware of anyone trying to sell you a system in which you have to save words or phrases. How many words or phrases have you saved in your first language?

Do you speak with an accent in your first language? You shouldn't have to speak with one in your second.
