I've always liked Shinedown ever since I first heard them, but never thought more of them than just another band. Until The Sounds of Madness came out, now I can't get enough of these guys. The first time I heard this song I was instantly hooked and even though every radio station overplayed it I still loved it. I learned this song about a year ago just because I wanted to learn the solo after the second chorus, and as simple as it is I still love it and love playing this song.

My First Time Series:
The name says it all, this is my first (of many, hopefully) drum series. Since it is my first time, I have a lot to learn, like lighting, sound, shaky cameras and drumming (which I apologize for all that stuff in advance).

I am completely open for constructive feedback and tips any of you have.

Drum Covers --
My drum covers are a combination of the two things I love, drumming and graphic design. When it comes to picking a song to cover, it has to fit these 3 criteria:
1. I have to like the song
2. It has to be within my skill range (which is limited)
3. I have to have fun playing it (most important!)

My method to drum covers is simple: Since I'm not talented or creative enough, I'll stick as close as I can to the original drum part.

The intro/outros were created by me (Corey) in Adobe After Effects CS5, with the help from the great tutorials by Andrew Kramer from Video Copilot ( http://www.videocopilot.net ):

  • first off, learn to tune ur drums so they all sound in range of each other, second ask Cobus about doing sound, I had to ask him about drum mics and mixing sounds with software. third, upgrade your set when you can. and as far as camera angle, do one cam hanging from the ceiling, one in each corner, do one looking over the cymbals directly at you and also do cam angle for the bass drum down below, other than that, awesome awesome, awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • @bwebber89 I use a drum dial to tune my drums so they are all in the same range and in this series I pretty much have my drum recordings so low that you can't here them, so maybe they sound out of range because you can kinda of hear mine along with the original recordings. And as far as your camera angle suggestions, I don't have 5 cameras or the ability to hang them from the ceiling and a foot cam is pointless unless you're doing some crazy fast Cobus doubles, thanks for the suggestions though!

  • literally the easiest drum cover in the world

    no offense

  • @bobkimjr I wouldn't say "the easiest" but I do agree that it's an easy song. I chose to do it for two main reasons: 1.) It's fun to play and 2.) I don't have the time, patience or skill to learn anything harder

  • Great drum work - the shaky camera at least shows you weren't miming :-) Looking forward to hearing more... Cheers

  • @hyberian haha thanks, way to put a positive spin on it :) Hopefully for my next series I'll figure a way to make it stop. And if all things go to plan I should be filming my next series during my school's spring break (March 12-20)

  • This is actualy really good. I liked how you added a duck :)

  • keep it up! your top class!

  • Very nice. Actually the shaking camera adds impact to your drumming IMHO. :)

  • Hey Kool CJ..nice job and yes it's true drums beat the piss out of a camera mic....guitars and everything else gets away with it but not the drums...Rock on Bro!!!!!!

  • @EsSRob Well thanks but I definitely don't know the first thing about mixing, so I just turned my drums way down because the sound quality from my camera mics wasn't that great, but thanks for thinking I'm good at something :)
