gretsch drums suck they never even made maple shells in till the 80s

I've never owned a Gretsch kit. But back in 1970 my best friend's older brother had this 4 pc. Champagne Sparkle Gretsch kit that sounded great,awesome,even with the original heads(years). Recently at G.C. I played on the Catalina Club Set.I couldn't believe how GOOD that small 18" kick sounded! That whole set's sound was amazing for under$600.
