Terror in Iraq strikes when a terrorist missile is fired at a European Air Transport freighter flying on behalf of DHL Aviation. The left wing burns out of control and all hydraulic pressure is lost. Despite the damage the aircraft lands safely at Baghdad, the first successful landing of a large airliner without the use of hydraulics. The crew are later given awards in recognition of their actions that day.

  • DHL ! They deliver!

  • Doesn't matter how many times I watch this - it's truly inspirational, I can fly a plane - and probably figure out some unusual circumstances to make it back to a field, but these guys simply did everything perfectly. One movement of those throttle levers +/- 1 or 2mm incorrectly could have (at any given time in their recovery or approach) resulted in an uncontrollable stall, bank angle, or dive.

These guys did it all perfectly - basically what the PCA software does, but with zero programming.

  • Terrorism can be defeated and we must defeat terrorism. Terrorism was defeated in Sri Lanka. It is now a proven fact. So never say that it cannot be defeated. It is out dated theory.

  • Great Job Pilots.

  • those guys definitley deserved the awards..fair play to them that was an epic landing and the team work was incredible

  • @Matracokura LOL, so true, so true, my bad.

  • Ah, great job FAA, 600+ people died 'cause of this, but the fact that losing all hydrolics is infrequent makes it okay to drop the idea of PCA? Then why have oxygen masks... or life vests?!? Why bother with any safety measures to the people in the plane with that kind of attitude!

  • @mard420 they still cannot jam those 20mm cannons found on most fighter planes. Guess how many HE/IN rounds you need to down a commercial plane.

  • welll that is smart. we are going to make commercial aircraft capable of avoiding being shot down while they fly into some more towers.

  • @AirCanada04 Correct. Denny Fitch was a United check pilot dead heading between Denver and Chicago when 232 lost the hydraulics. He went to the cockpit to help and was accepted by the crew. He could work with the two throttles easier than Capt. Al Haynes or the co-pilot because the throttle lever on the exploded engine 2 was frozen and in the middle of the two other throttle levers. As such, the other two pilots could only work one throttle each.
