Namedropping

I met his daughter once
I remember her profile
It was his profile, his alone.
It was like meeting the Queen
And Bob Dylan all at once,
Uncanny where loyalties lie.
She reigns in South London
Over a sea of green memories
Bitter as the acid of unearned royalties.

Beautiful in her pain she pines,
Beautiful in her chains she wishes,
Beautiful in her burning body
She mourns; sideways on.

  • Oh my, Lina, how ever did I MISS this poem before? Was it not public for a while? No matter, I have found it and I think I may be in love with you. :) P.S. Brian and I have sat here watching it multiple times, and he wanted me to tell you he loves it because it was so subtle and poignantly understated. Five stars from us! (I do miss the stars...)

  • @sonofwalt Just one response (two responses) like this make it all worthwhile. It is so rare and infinitely valuable to be so understood. Thank you!

  • Did I not comment on this poem? What is going on with me?

Such a very crisp and subtle poem. I love the lines:

"it was like meeting the Queen

And Bob Dylan all at once,

    Uncanny where loyalties lie"

Love that simile and that it ends with "lie."

  • Thank you and thank you for having a good eye for a lie. :-)

  • Such a lovely voice!!! I could listen to you all day!! - often the overshadowed are the most tragic and most forgotten, but you have the eye and most of all integrity to bring this to the world's attention 5*****

  • Thank you. Humbly I treasure your comment.

  • Digging a little deeper into my friend's channels today. Nice way to spend a rainy afternoon while the laundry is in. Might I be silly enough to say that I love your kitchen? And the kitty cat.

All of this is said because YouTube itself is being a stubborn git today, and will not let me see past the 28 second mark of this video! Sigh... I like the poem as written, but hopefully, the tube will unstick itself and I can hear your reading next time I come back and visit. Thank you, Lina! :)

  • this is my third time here for this lovely piece. it gets better with each listening.

  • Must, must make my way to the Poetry Cafe one day. Perhaps we'll meet up there. Yours, in profile... H.

  • I saw Aeronwy Thomas once at an open mike night at the Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden.

I never asked her whether she liked my poor poetry but Im sure your beautiful tribute poem would have made her smile. Im still thinking about, she mourns; sideways on.

    Regards, Peter
