Metal riffs--melody and harmony lead riffs I came up with one day in the style of melodic death metal (melodeath).

ESP ltd Viper 400 EMG 81/85 pickups
Digitech Metal Master distortion pedal

---------------------------------------------------------------
Description: This is an old riff I created around the time ChromeCelica00 and I first became friends. It will probably be worked over slightly before resuse.

Sounds a little like In Flames... what do you think?

(Formerly titled "Metal Riff 1")

  • Holy shit it sounds like there's a harmony in this song how you do that?? e.e

  • @Metallum29 There is a harmony in here! I'm playing it in the video. I recorded the melody beforehand and it's playing in the background. To play a guitar harmony in 3rds like this: Play the same pattern, 3 notes up or down--IN KEY. Have fun with it!

  • @blackened138 Damn dude it sounds sick xD

    excellent work

  • @Metallum29 Thank you, sir!

  • @WishOfSorrows Not death metal. MELODIC DEATH METAL. Totally different riffing styles. Metalcore stole it's primary riffing style from the Gothenburg (melodic death metal) bands. At this point, I'd be willing to bet most metalcore bands today don't even know that.

  • @cmc47834 You need either 2 guitarists--1 to play the melody & 1 to play the harmony--or a recording of yourself in the background playing 1 of them with you playing the other along to it. This is me doing the 2nd option, which I wouldn't suggest now that you can get studio-quality recording equipment & a decent camera for pretty cheap. Nowadays my friend/guitarist, ChromeCelica00, & I record riffs using Line 6 POD products before a video is shot. Check him out (if you haven't already)

  • @cmc47834 Equipment or notes?

  • @blackened138 hey man what do you use to play the other riff so u can harmonize?

  • @BrutalOppressor Thanks for the nice comment, man! Good to see someone who knows what they're talking about! :]

  • This does sound like Melodic Death Metal. Those other people don't know what they are talking about. Nice job \m/ :D
