Joe woke up only 20 minutes after he'd fallen asleep. That's how things went for him. Fall asleep for 20 minutes, wake up and stay awake for an hour then fall back asleep for 20 more minutes.
Sleeping without Demi in his arms was hard. The first half a month she was gone, he didn't sleep at all but he's gotten more and more sleep each couple weeks but it's not much at all.
Joe checked the time on his phone, almost 8:30 in the morning. He sighed and decided it was okay to get up. Then he realized it was Monday. What about school?
Joe rushed downstairs in his sweatpants and t-shirt.
Joe: Why didn't anyone wake me up?!
Mrs. Jonas: You're sick today, Joseph.
Joe: What? No, I feel fine... sort of.
Mrs. Jonas: We just called you in sick for the day off.
Joe: Oh. Right, okay.
Mrs. Jonas: Waffles?
Joe: No.
Mrs. Jonas: Joe, you need to eat some decent food.
Joe: I'm not hungry.
Mrs. Jonas: I don't believe you.
Joe: I'm really not.
He goes back upstairs and grabs his phone, headphones, a book, a couple magazines, a sweatshirt, and his guitar and carried it all downstairs and down the hall. He expertly opened one of the doors to the living room and went in and closed it behind him.
Joe froze by the entrance. He took a whiff of the air and smelled something different than what he's been used to. But he's smelled it before.
He walked around the couch and began setting things down on the coffee table. When he looked up, he almost dropped his guitar. Demi was sleeping peacefully on the couch, wrapped in Joe's gray blanket, her head sunk into his pillow.
Joe put the rest of his things down. What is Demi doing here? Asleep. On the couch.
He plopped down in a chair and watched Demi sleep. He felt weird that she didn't know he was watching but he couldn't help himself. She was so beautiful.
He watched her for almost an entire hour then his phone buzzed loudly on the table. It stopped after one buzz but Demi was already waking up. Joe was arguing with himself in his head on whether to stay or get out before she noticed but before he had the change to decide, Demi said his name.
Joes eyes shot over to Demi who sat up on the couch.
Demi: Joe? What are you doing here?
Joe: I, uh, I live... here?
Demi: Right. I guess you should be asking me that question.
Joe: No, I'll just g-go. You can sleep.
He gets up and quickly walks out into the hall.
Demi: Joe! Joe, wait!
Joe turns around to see Demi come out of the living room.
Joe: Yes?
Demi: Um, can we go back in the living room? -She glances around Joe to see his parents in the kitchen down the hall.-
Joe nods and follows Demi back in the living room.
Joe: What's up?
Demi: Well, I, uh, I miss you, Joe. And you know that I still love you, and I'd like to be your girlfriend again... i-if that's okay.
Joe: Really? -Demi nods and bites her lower lip.- Y-yeah. That's fine.
Demi smiles widely then throws her arms around Joe. He hugs her back tightly.
Demi: It sucks without you, Joe -A few tears roll out of her eyes and seep into Joe's t-shirt.-
Joe: It sucks without you, too.
Demi: I never want to lose you again.
Joe: Me either -He buries his face in Demi's hair as she quietly cries into his chest.-
Joe even let out a few tears himself. He was so glad that things were going to hopefully be back to normal.
